George Weld started serving breakfast out of his friend’s hot dog restaurant. In the years following, that breakfast-only project, the Egg, gained a devoted following, and eventually replaced the hot dog spot entirely. By now it’s a neighborhood institution, known for its eggs Rothko, french press coffee, and brunch crowds.
“We are a farm-to-table pioneer serving a southern-inflected menu for breakfast and lunch.” You can eat there from 7 am to 5 pm throughout the week and 8 am on the weekends. Be sure to enjoy Eggs Rothko, which is an easy-cooked egg in a slice of brioche and topped with cheddar. The Egg restaurant consistently always lands on both local and national best brunch.
2. Tom’s
Tom’s is an old school diner has been a neighborhood favorite since 1936. The decor is full of images of Brooklyn’s diner culture. You’ll love to sit at one of their tables and feel like you’ve stepped in a time warp. It’s a great family-friendly restaurant that is a part of Brooklyn’s history.
The blueberry-and-ricotta pancakes are a local favorite, but everything on the menu is especially good—even the toast! Don’t forget to wash your food down with an old-school egg cream or a cherry-lime rickey. You can visit from 7 am-5 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday from 7 am-9 pm and Sunday 8 am-8 pm.
3. Milk and Honey
Milk and Honey offers plenty of seating in the renovated space, there are lots of outlets and free wifi for those looking to get a little work done. There are already a few people meeting up to sit down for a cup of coffee and chat. Egyptian Poached Eggs, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Breakfast Tacos, these with many other delicious meals are available 7 am-8 am all seven days.
It opened in 2013 and quickly became a popular place within the Brooklyn community. You’ll enjoy your meal at this amazing restaurant.
4. Cafe Luluc
The Cafe Luluc is a casual French restaurant on Smith Street in Boerum Hill that has a moderately priced and extremely tasty breakfast. The decor has a very European feel. Grab a magazine from the wooden rack on the wall, and read while you dine at this local favorite. During the warmer months, you can choose a seat in the backyard patio. New York is known for so many wonderful things, one thing you can find in the heart of Brooklyn is this place that is known for there delicious pancakes.
Rather it’s through the week 8:30-3:30 or the weekend 8:30-4:30 then reopening at 4:30-11:00 in the evening Café Luluc is an excellent choice for breakfast. This place is a cash-only restaurant but they are plenty of ATMs close by, so get that cash and come indulge. Stroll down Smith Street, the main shopping drag in Boerum Hill. Once you reach Atlantic Avenue, make a right and continue down toward Flatbush. Atlantic Avenue has numerous boutiques. Be sure to stop in Erica Weiner to check out her jewelry and Kimera for clothes.
5. Five Leaves NY
F Having worked in the restaurant industry for years and built up a solid reputation, couple Kathy Mecham and Jud Mongell had a dream of opening up a restaurant of their own. They were proud to open Five Leaves in NY. During a chance encounter with Heath Ledger in Australia, Mongrel struck up a relationship with the actor. After the two separately moved to New York, they became reacquainted and decided to build an American and Australian restaurant in Brooklyn, New York.
It’s one of the best brunch places and is open every day from 8 am-1 pm. Go there to enjoy House Cured Arctic Char, Moroccan Scramble, Big Breakkie and plenty of other favorites. It has a wonderful Aussie Atmosphere. Forget brekkie or lunch – brunch is where New York really shines. After all, this is the city that turned the ‘in-between meal’ into an excuse to order mimosas after mimosas. If you’re in Greenpoint, swing by Five Leaves. The man, the legend, Heath Ledger is behind this spot, and it’s as good as you can imagine.
